DIDACTICS

Didactic Sessions

Faculty from both hematology and medical oncology deliver lectures on core disease topics and areas of active research. These sessions aim to build foundational knowledge and expose fellows to current advancements to ensure broad and balanced coverage

Journal Club

Conducted monthly, one fellow presents a critical review of two recent high-impact publications, with insights from faculty. As the fellowship cohort grows, we anticipate increasing the frequency of these sessions.

New Patient Conference (NPC)

Held monthly, this conference focuses on the presentation of a solid tumor oncology case. Fellows present the case, followed by a discussion on standard evaluation and treatment approaches, guided by a faculty attending. As the program matures, there are expansion plans to include thoracic oncology, gynecologic oncology, and radiation oncology faculty to enrich the multidisciplinary perspective.

Hematology/Oncology Grand Rounds

Each fellow is expected to deliver a 30-minute Grand Rounds presentation during their second or third year. This provides an opportunity to develop presentation skills and share scholarly work with the broader department.

Hematopathology Conference

This is a weekly fellow-led conference where one fellow presents interesting cases in both malignant and benign hematology. Each session includes a discussion of relevant hematology board review questions.

Board Review

In preparation for the ASCO and ASH in-service exams and third-year board certification, fellows participate in structured and informal board review sessions. These include practice questions and review of board-focused materials.

Tumor Boards

Fellows will attend and present at various tumor boards, including breast, general, and urology tumor boards, which occur biweekly. These meetings provide valuable exposure to multidisciplinary case discussions and collaborative decision-making.

Morbidity & Mortality (M&M) / Adverse Event Analysis: Fellows lead quarterly M&M conferences, analyzing adverse events in hematology and oncology patients. These sessions foster a culture of safety, reflection, and continuous improvement
