Franciscan Health Olympia Fields (FHOF) is a nationally recognized leader in healthcare and serves as the primary clinical training site for the Hematology and Medical Oncology Fellowship Program.

The Comprehensive Cancer Institute at Franciscan Health Olympia Fields is an American College of Surgeons (ACS)-approved Teaching Hospital Cancer Program, reflecting its dedication to delivering the highest standards of oncologic care. It holds prestigious accreditations from the American College of Surgeons in the National Accreditation Program for Breast Centers (NAPBC) and the Commission on Cancer (CoC), underscoring its leadership in multidisciplinary cancer treatment and quality improvement.

Fellows will complete the majority of their clinical rotations and educational experiences at FHOF, ensuring a cohesive and immersive training environment. This setting provides broad exposure to a diverse patient population and a wide spectrum of hematologic and oncologic conditions, preparing fellows for independent practice and board certification.

In addition to comprehensive cancer services, the hospital offers robust support in areas integral to hematology/oncology care, including palliative and hospice care, pain management, behavioral health, rehabilitation, advanced imaging, and surgical oncology.

Fellows will work closely with a multidisciplinary team of board-certified faculty and specialists who are deeply committed to mentorship, clinical excellence, and the professional development of each trainee.

AIMS

Deliver Comprehensive, Patient-Centered Clinical Training

The Franciscan Health Hematology and Medical Oncology program aims to provide its fellows with immersive, hands-on experience in diagnosing and managing a wide range of hematologic and oncologic conditions across inpatient, outpatient, and consultative settings. The program will emphasize compassionate, evidence-based care that respects the values and needs of diverse patient populations.

 

Foster Lifelong Learning and Scholarly Excellence

We endeavor to cultivate a culture of intellectual curiosity and continuous learning through structured didactics, journal clubs, and active participation in clinical research, quality improvement projects, and clinical trials when possible. The fellows will be encouraged to contribute to the advancement of the hematology and medical oncology field through scholarly dissemination.

 

Develop Future Leaders in Hematology and Oncology

The program will provide progressive autonomy and leadership opportunities throughout the fellowship, including roles in teaching, multidisciplinary collaboration, and institutional initiatives. The fellows will be supported in developing the skills necessary to lead in academic, community, and policymaking environments.
